Welcome to my blog!
My name is Sarah Moyes and I live as sustainable as possible in Edinburgh.
So how did I get here? I have been interested in living a more compassionate lifestyle since I decided to become a vegetarian when I was 12 years old. That decision was primarily made because I don’t believe animals should suffer to put food on my plate, but over the years I have become much more aware of the environmental impact that industrial farming has on our planet.
Due to the fact I’ve never drank cow’s milk or eaten many eggs, it took me until I was 26 to fully transition to a vegan lifestyle. At the end of my twenties I had a light bulb moment when I realised that if I really wanted to help the planet, I had to do more than refusing to eat animal products.
Simply Sustainable Sarah was born out of my previous blog Zero Waste 30, and documents by journey to living as sustainable a life as possible with topics including veganism, zero waste, animal rights, and environmental issues.
2019 has been a big year for me as I spoke on a panel about living plastic free at the Scottish Parliament as part of the Edinburgh Science Festival and was appointed to Chair of Plastic Free Scotland, a volunteer organisation to reduce single-use plastic in Scotland. I’m also just about to start a new job as a Plastic and Circular Economy Campaigner for Friends of the Earth Scotland.
So come and follow me on my journey!
